My husband placed an order for 5 lakenvelders, one male French black tailed red marans, 5 white silkies, 4 crazy cackle toppies, and three cayuga ducklings.
The male marans is to replace the male we lost this winter. He had the best temperament and I hope the new one will too.

I ordered all females but know I could get a roo with the Marans. And I saw the crazy cackle toppies...how fun!!
I have one black silkie now who happened to go broody about 21 days ago...shes on fake eggs so I'm going to let her help me raise about 5 or 6 of my chicks. This will be her 2nd time as a mom...first time she hatched her own eggs and did s great job. I told her to hang in there a few more days...yes I talk to my chickens.2022 Chicks - Cackle Experience (2)

Those would be fun. The surplus females was as adventurous as I got.

Right!? Also maybe a little intimidating since you don’t know if you’re getting waterfowl or turkeys or just chicks or what! LOL but I like the surprise 2022 Chicks - Cackle Experience (16)2022 Chicks - Cackle Experience (17)2022 Chicks - Cackle Experience (18) I think I even saw a guinea in one of the things!!!

My silkie is helping me care for my 3 austrawhites. She sat on fake eggs for 22 days. I put the chicks under her this morning just before sunrise and she immediately started talking to them. Shes a happy hen now. I got a pic of one peaking out.

That had to make it to us in Washington, which I'm quite impressed they arrived this morning. Two days from label creation to arrival. Below is the tracking progress before it hit our local post office at 1AM this morning.

So glad to hear that you got them so quickly. We're NE WA and mine are shipping next week from Cackle!

Hey Cackle friends. I have a chick that I am having trouble identifying. At first I thought it was an Americauna from my blue egg layer surplus package but....it has feathered legs. So then I thought it must be a french maran from my dark egg layer surplus, but didn't match those pics to me. So I posted it on the what breed thread and someone thinks cochin. It does sort of resemble the barred cochin,(https://www.cacklehatchery.com/product/barred-cochin-standard-chicken/) but does Cackle just send random bonus chicks to people who didn't order them ? I did get extras..but was wondering if anyone else. has gotten a breed they did not order? Here's her pic. Or is this a maran? Thanks for helping2022 Chicks - Cackle Experience (44)
