I love Matilda. It's the name I've always had for a girl. BUT someone close to me used it, and I don't like the shortened versions.
I prefer short names that are less likely to be shortened. Boys name are biblical. Most Biblical girls names just have many negatives associations, although I do really like the combination of Eden Matilda (let me know your thoughts).
I'd hate not to use Matilda, so please throw me some girls names that would go with middle name....

You could also consider the virtue names:

Hope Matilda
Eden Matilda is really nice though so I’d think about sticking with that!

My grandmother was called Emily Matilda - if I'd had a girl I would have called her this.

I think also bear in mind that middle names are very rarely used generally. I called my niece (22) by her fist the middle name recently and she said she’d completely forgotten it was her name!
so if Matilda is really important could you use it but go by a nickname, such as Tilly? Or think of another name that’s similar?
I think you will lose it as a name if it’s a middle name.

@Twoshoesnewshoes I actually use all my children's first and middle names on official items, in school and call them by both names probably 75% of the time, because I think it's pointless to give them a name you don't use.
I read once about meaning links between Matilda and Madison, but worry Madison is trendy compared to Matilda.

My first thought was Amy. Phoebe (as per a PP) is great too, and Biblical. Or what about Mary?
Other ideas: Rachel, Anna, Lily, Claire.
Not understanding why it's pointless to have middle names you don' use all the time, though. My dc all have 2 middle names each and I only ever call them by their first names. Their middle names are still significant and they're proud of them.
