I COLUMBIA, S. SATURDAY, MAY 7, 1955 The State: South Carolina's Progressive Newspaper T. G. Sessions, 75, of Blaney, Farmer, Dies BLANEY, May 6-(Special) Thomas G. Sessions, 75, retired lumberman and farmer died suddenly at his home early this morning.

The son of the late Thomas C. and Maggie Cook Sessions, he spent his entire life in this community. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Sarah Easler Sessions of Blaney; sons, Edwin L. Sesof Blaney, R.

C. Sessions of Columbia and Thomas Sessions of Augusta, one daughter, Mrs. E. L. Taylor of Columbia; three sisters, Mrs.

F. W. Hilton of Folly Beach, Mrs. Lillie Davis of Columbia and Mrs. D.

B. Johnson of Garfield, 18 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon from the Union Baptist Church two miles north of Blaney by the Rev. George Partridge, the Rev. Mr.

Franklin and Chaplain Deal. Mrs. Mitchell, 77, Ninety Six NINETY SIX, May 6-(Special) -Mrs. Effie Flora Phillips Mitchell, 77, died at 6:40 this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ruby Humphries, Ninety Six, after six of declining dealth and a serious illness of three weeks.

Mrs. Mitchell was born in Porterdale. a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Phillips, both of Georgia.

She lived in Ninety Six the past 18 years and before that lived at Langley. She was a member of Porterdale Methodist Church. Survivors include three children, Mrs. Humphries, Joe Mitchell of Langley and Harold Mitchell of Bath; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 5 o'clock Saturday afternoon from Pine Grove Baptist Church in Johns Town by the Rev.

Belcher and the Rev. M. A. Frye. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.

W. G. Dye, 68, Great Falls, Dies GREAT FALLS, May 6--(Spe-William Gladden Dye, 68, died today after a lingering illness. A retired rural policeman in Chester County, Mr. Dye was born in Chester County, a son of the late Ross J.

and Mary Gladden Dye. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Iva Sanders Dye; two daughters, Mrs. B. J.

Brown of Charlotte, N. and Mrs. John C. Jordan of Great Falls; two sisters. Mrs.

W. S. Keistler and Mrs. Neal D. Wade, both of Great Falls; one brother, Major E.

Dye of Richburg, and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 Sunday afternoon from Ebenezer Methodist Church by the Rev. E. M. Heape and the Rev.

W. Y. Cooley, and the Rev. W. S.

Pettus. Burial will be in the church cemetery. W. J. Turnipseed Dies at Hospital William Jesse Turnipseed, 75, of Blythewood and Upper Richland County, died at the Baptist Hospital early yesterday morning after an extended illness.

He was born Nov. 18, 1879, the son of the late George and Ellen Turnipseed. He was a farmer and carpenter and a lifelong resident of that community. He was a member of Oak Grove Methodist Church. He was twice married.

His first marriage was to Miss Fannie S. Lever who died in 1925. His second marriage was to Miss Minnie Murray in 1931, who survives, along with one son, Jefferson. J. Turnipseed; one step-son, Owen Murray; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 4 o'clock at Oak Grove Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Donald Ragin. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Active, pallbearers will be C. J.

Lever, J. D. Turnipseed, Edward Turnipseed, Samuel Lever, W. J. Ballentine and Lander Lever.

Honorary pallbearers will be G. R. Beckham, James Beckham, Reggie Lever, Dr. Amos Estes, B. J.

Eargle, Joe DuBard and the stewards of Oak Grove Methodist Church. The family will be at home and the body will remain at the Paschal-Regal Funeral Home until the hour of service. Judge Soper Plans to Retire Federal Judge Morris A. Soper of the United States Circuit Court of Appeals will retire June 2, officials in the district attorney's office in Columbia have been fied. C. Vaughn, 67, who died Wednesday were conducted today from Friendship Baptist Church. Interment was in the church cemetery. N. Augusta Lineman Dies During Work James Satcher, 33, of 1017 James North Augusta, a lineman for the Georgia Power was killed Monday when he came in contact with a "hot" wire and fell from a power pole on Wrightsboro near Flowing Wells.

Deputies Bennie Brake and A. W. Cook said Satcher and two other men were installing a transformer when the accident occurred lat 12 p.m. He died enroute to the University Hospital. Alvin G.

Rhoden, Jr. of 1017 Eustis job foreman, said he was tying in some "live" leads when attracted by Satcher's screams. He turned in time to see his companion fall from the pole with his safety belt hanging free. 'The victim velled twice before striking the ground, Rhoden said. Authorities said Satcher had two small burns on his left thumb near the nail.

Working with the two men was Horace Hardaway of Highway 78, ground helper. Coroner Nathan F. Widener said it has not been determined whether Satcher died from electrocution or from the fall. Georgia Power officials said Satcher was the first employee be killed on the job since January, 1949. A native of Johnston, Mr.

Satcher has resided practically all his life in Augusta. He had been employed by the power company for nearly 11 years. He was a member of the Hephzipah Baptist Church. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Bobbie Kitchens Satcher; a son, Walton Lee Satcher; a daughter, Vicki Satcher: three sisters, Mrs.

Ralph W. Hall and Mrs. Carter E. Hampton of Augusta and Mrs. Gene Guhne of Chattanooga, Tenn.

His mother, Mrs. Mattie Jordan Satcher, formerly of Johnston also survives. Mrs. Sheppard, 69, Jacksonboro JACKSONBORO, May 6-(Special) -Mrs. Mary Groves Breaker Sheppard, 69, died at 3:10 this morning at the Colleton.

County Hospital after an illness of two weeks. Mrs. Sheppard was born at Osborn, a daughter of the late George Jackson Groves, Jr. of Osborn and the late Emma Keller Groves ot Charleston County. She was twice married, first to the late William Breaker of Ravenel and then to the late Hiram Sheppard, of Ravenel.

Survivors include a son, Harvey Breaker of Jacksonboro; three daughters, Mrs. C. A. Evans of Jacksonboro, Mrs. Hattie Clark Spell of Maryville and Mrs.

Earl McNaughton of Adams Run; a brother, the Rev. J. S. Groves of Charleston Heights; fifteen grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o'clock Sunday morning at the White Church Cemetery, near Ravenel by elders of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints Mormon, of wnich she was a member.

Moore was born Sept. 12, 1802, a daughter of the late Gleen G. and Jane Crumpton Peak in Fairfield County. She spent most of her life in Richland County and in the Edgewood section for the past 25 years. She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church where she was a teacher of the 3ethany Sunda, School Class.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Pearle Ford and Mrs. w. Ralph Eleazer, both of Columbia; three sons, R. T.

(Bob) Moore, W. (Jimmy) Moore and G. Glenn Moore, all of Columbia; two sisters, Mrs. Charlotte Melton of Augusta, and Mrs. Mamie Mattox of Ridgeway; two brothers, Wylie Peak of Columbia and Frank Peak of West Columbia: 12 grandchildren and nine dren.

The body will remain at the Thompson Funeral Home until the hour of the service. The family will be at the home of Mrs. Ralph Eleazer, Rt. 3, Columbia. Architects Entertained At Meeting CHARLESTON, May 6 Architects and their wives attending the South Atlantic Regional Conference of the American Institute of Architects sipped co*cktails and ate a buffet supper on the ramparts of Fort Sumter tonight.

Entertainment was a concert given by the Society for the Preservation of Spirituals. George Bain Cummings, secretary and president nominate of the A. I. was speaker at a lunchcon at the Fort Sumter Hotel. Group meetings and workshops were followed by a house tour in the afternoon.

Columbia, Dies; Rites Sunday Mrs. Eva Marie Sorgee Dyson, 60, of 4819 Colonial Drive died at 9:37 last night at her residence after an illness for the past six months. Mrs. Dyson was, born in Augusta, a daughter of the late Sorgee and Nellie Layton Sorgee. She was a member of the Whaley Street Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, W. H. Dyson of Columbia; two daugthers, Mrs. Elvie E. Chandler of Greensboro, N.

Joseph's Hospital in Augusta, Ga. She was in failing health 10 months. A native of Edgefield County, Mrs. Steele was the daughter of the late John and Mimie Prince Doolittle. She moved to Aiken about seven years ago where she and her husband were in the grocery business.

She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church of Trenton. She is survived by her husband, J. E. Steele; one daughter, Mrs. Tommy Ivey of North Augusta; four sons, B.

J. Harris of Miami, Julian and Leroy Harris, both of Aiken, and Dewey Harris of Detroit; four sisters, Mrs. Lewis McGee of Edgefield, Mrs. Joe Wood of Cloverville, Mrs. James Doolittle of Modoc and Mrs.

L. Mims, Kingstree KINGSTREE, May 6-(Special) -Funeral services for George Linnie Mims will be conducted at 3:30 Saturday afternoon from the First Baptist Church here by his pastor, the Rev. J. K. Lawton.

Burial will be in the Saint James Cemetery between New Zion and Olanta. Mr. Mims, 67, died night at his home near here. He was found at 6 a.m. having suc cumbed to a stroke.

A retired farmer, Mr. Mims born in Sumter County. He a son of was the late Rebecca White and Lazarus Mims, who spent most of their life in the Olanta section of Florence County. Mr. Mims lived near here since 1917.

His wife, the former Donnie Ham, died in 1929. A former deacon, he was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church and of the Fellowship Bible Class of the church. Survivors include two sons, Hazel E. Mims of Rockingham, N. and T.

L. Mims of Kingstree; four daughters, Mis. Theresa Allen of Kingstree, Mrs. Roy Graham of Florence, Mrs. L.

R. Quinn. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. After 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon the body will be at the home, 302 Florence street. Bishopvillian's Brother Drowns in Japan BISHOPVILLE, May 6 (Special) -M-S Noah Franklin Herndon, son of Mrs.

Lester H. Ezell and the late Noah Franklin Herndon of Laurel Hill, N. died April 8 in Tokyo, Japan, of accidental drowning. Mr. Herndon was in the service of the United States Army (Infantry) for 19 years and was due for retirement in July, 1956.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Pauline Herndon of Harrisburg, three children, ages 8, 5 and years; his mother, Mrs. Lester Ezell of Washington, D. and one brother, Thomas Herndon of Bishopville. The body has arrived in New York and funeral services are set for Monday, May 9, in Harrisburg, Pa.

MARGARET MOSELEY CHARLESTON, May 6-Funeral services for Miss Margaret Ann Moseley, daughter of Mrs. Margaret Nolen Moseley Heissenbuttle and the late Hazel A. Moseley, were conducted today Roman Catholic Cathedral from, St. the John the Baptist. Interment was in St.

Lawrence Cemetery, Miss Moseley died Wednesday in a local hospital. CAP. LEWIS BURK CHARLESTON, May 6-Funeral services for Capt. Lewis S. Burk, 58, secretary-treasurer of the Charleston Harbor Pilots Association and a harbor pilot since 1913, were conducted today from First Baptist Church.

Interment was in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Capt. Burk died Thursday at a Charleston Hospital. W.

Mrs. Susan Britt Of Andrews Dies; Funeral Sunday ANDREWS, -May 6 (Special)Mrs. Susan Tempie Howard Britt, widow of William Dozier Britt of Andrews, died Thursday night at her home after a period of ill health.

Mrs. Britt, the former Miss' Susan Tempie Howard, was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Henry Pinckney How ard and the late Mrs. Dora Morris Howard. She spent her entire life in and around Andrews, and lived the past six years in the town of Andrews. She attended the Happy Home Church.

Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. P. H. Herring, Mrs. Virginia Warren and Mrs.

W. B. Powell, all of Andrews. Mrs. Lillian Mitchum of North Augusta and Mrs.

Ruth Britt of Chattanooga, 31 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two half-brothers, Johnnie Howard of Andrews and Wade Howard of Lancaster, and two halfsisters, Mrs. Ellen Cox of Andrews and Mrs. Lula Craft of Florence. C. Willis, 83, Farmer of Greenwood, Dies GREENWOOD, May 6 (Special) -Willie Chesley Willis, 83, of Greenwood died here at 6:45 tonight at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Grady Looney, after an illness of two days. Mr. Willis was born in Edgefield County, a son of the late Mr.

and Mrs. Chester Willis of Edgefield County. He was a farmer and lived in Edgefield County except until 12 years ago when he moved to Greenwood. He was a member of Red Oak Grove Baptist Church in Edgefield county. His wife, Mrs.

Sallie Brooks Willis, died in 1942. Survivors include eight daughters, Mrs. Cott Gable and Mrs. Ralph Bables of McCormick, Mrs. Aubrey Nichols, Mrs.

Grady Looney, Mrs. G. E. Livingston and Mrs. Otto Coleman, all of Greenwood; Mrs.

Claude Polatty of Clarksville, and Mrs. William McDaniel of of Modoc; four sons, James North Augusta and J. and G. C. Willis of Greenwood; 40 grandchildren; 35 greatgrand children, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral plans are incomplete. D. H. Floyd, 76, Florence FLORENCE, May 6-(Special)David Harrison Floyd, 76, retired farmer died at 12:15 Thursday night at his home, 1004 Rose Avenue of a heart attack. He retired seven years ago because of declining health and since that time lived at Florence.

Mr. Floyd was born at Olanta, a son of the late Franklin Cornelius Lee Floyd. He lived most of his life in the Olanta and Evergreen section of Florence County. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church and of the Men's Bible Class of the church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs.

Martha Hicks Floyd Florence: one son, William Harrison Floyd of New Orleans, one foster-son, Ashton H. Hicks of Lake City; six brothers, Silas, Joe, Henry and Jethro Floyd, all of Olanta, Hudson of Effingham and Eddie Floyd of Lake City, and two sisters, Miss Bessie Floyd of Olanta and Mrs. White Nettles of Evergreen. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 o'clock Saturday from the Grace Baptist Church by the Rev. J.

T. Dabney, pastor, and Rev. M. B. Gunter, former pastor of Evergreen Baptist Church.

E. E. Colvin, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church and the Rev. W. W.

Lancaster, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Multins. Burial will follow in Mount flope Cemetery. Mr. Johnson, of 156 North CaroIna Drive, died Thursday night 111 a local hospital of a heart attack. His first wife, the former Miss Estelle Reaves of Greer, died In November, 1944.

A native of Mullins, Mr. Johnson was born February 13, 1898, a son of the late F. C. and Laura Altman Johnson, both of Mullins. was a graduate of Mullins High School and Furman University in the class of 1925.

After graduation, he moved to North Carolina where he began his pastoral work. After he moved to Greer, where he lived 1 14 years and served as pastor of Bellview Baptist Church, until he retired five years ago and came to Florence and became associated with the Public Savings Life Insurance Company. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church and a Mason. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Vera Hodges Johnson of Flor- ence; one daughter, Mrs.

London, died at 6:30 this morning after several years of declining health. She is survived by three sons, Harvey, Marvin L. and Ralph P. London, all of Blacksburg; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. J.

S. P. Carpenter of Macon, and Mrs. Hugh H. Durham of Dallas, N.

and two brothers, Walter and Herbert Beam, both of Cherryville, N. C. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon from the Saint John's Methodist Church. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. Culpepper Rites Sunday WALTERBORO, May 6 (Special) Funeral services will be conducted at 5 o'clock Sunday from the First Baptist Church for Ernest Lee Culpepper, 62, lumberman and builder, who died Thursday night at the Orangeburg Regional Hospital after an illness of several months.

The Rev. L. G. Cribb, the Rev. Gaines Mason and Dr.

H. Jack Flanders will officiate. Burial will follow in Live Oak Cemetery. Mr. Culpepper was president of the Culpepper Lumber Company, formerly the Smoaks Lumber Company of Colleton County.

Survivors include his widow, two sons, a daughter, two brothers and a sister.
