Hi,

I need to replace the engine on my 1.4 8v Citroen C3 due to a major head gasket blowout.

Looking into the popular auction site, I find 2 different engine types mentioned - KFV and KFW.

My current engine is a KFV but I was wondering what the differences are between each type?

Will a KFW be a suitable replacement for a KFV? It's just that there is currently one that is 30k miles less than mine available at the moment at a reasonable price but says it is KFW.

Cheers

Hi Smassive,

I did a quick search and it looks like the 1.4 KFU is actually an ET3JP4 engine where the 1.4 KFV is the TU3JP engine.

The TU3 JP has 75 PS (73 hp/55 kW)

and the ET3 JP4 is a DOHC 16-valve version of the TU3 with variable valve timing and delivers 90 PS (88 hp/66 kW)

So from a quick look, I would say one is the 8v and the other is the 16v and not what I would consider as interchangeable.

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering about the KFW rather than the KFU. This is what I am actually looking at, which appears to be an 8v SOHC engine.

There are other listings which say KFV/KFW but I want to make sure before laying out a couple hundred quid.

Cheers,

I don't see any mention of KFW for citroen C3, so its probably 'peugeot' branding on the KFV. I will post if I find anything at proves or disproves it. 1.4 engine differences (KFV or KFW) (8)

Thanks for your help once again.

I have ordered a second hand engine today. After speaking with the company which supplied it, they told me that the difference is in the engine mounts and these can be transferred from the old engine anyway.

Cheers,

Thanks for the update. Will you be doing the engine swap yourself?

Some words and photos of your experiences would be very welcome.
