We don't have a competent left back at the club. Replace Taylor and it makes life easier for the left winger and left sided CB (who hopefully won't be Scales).

I'm all for replacing Ralston, but the back up RB is less of a priority than the first choice LB.

McGregor's inefficiencies at that level were there for all to see during the Euros, a lot of huffing and puffing and not a lot of brains - that and technique was the biggest eye opener between Scotland and every other team at the tournament, we suffer the same thing at a club level in the Champions League. There's only so far chest thumping, passion and giving 110% can get you before you get shown up for what you really are.

Seen a stat McGregor was dead last in percentage of progressive passes played for all 130+ players who played more than 100 passes in the tournament.

It didn’t surprise me to be honest.

Clarke set his teams up to stifle the midfield, players like McGinn, McTomney, McGregor look dreadful in his teams, even the boy wonder, Billy Gilmour would take the ball and move 5 yards to the side, back or occasionally forward. I don't do stats, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Central Defenders were the players who completed the most passes for Scotland

That means we have to fashion a team from poorer quality players and utilise a system that makes us competitive against them. When Maeda got sent off in Madrid he persisted with 4-3-2 just as did later in the season against Hearts with the result that we lost both games and in Madrid got royally humped.
It was an abysmal performance from the coach/manager. One thing to try it at Ibrox with Moussa and Eddy up top and Brown in the middle of the park different kettle of fish in Madrid

Harry Brady on CU said a few weeks back that we were going to operate in a higher tier of transfer fee this summer after listing the success rates of certain brackets. Think under £3m and there was a 13% chance you’d be a first team regular at Celtic. Obviously the rate went up as the price went up.

You were left with Kyogo up front along with Palma who must be one of the laziest players we have had in a long time so we had no effective out ball at all.
As soon as Maeda was sent off he should have gone 4-4-1 with Kyogo up top until HT then someone else like Oh to try and get out occasionally instead we still trying to operate a very half hearted press and got played around so easily the midfield three were knackered by HT

Nobody across Europe is signing anyone yet. Keep the faith. 2 major international tournaments happening in the world. Calm heads required.

I think theres probably some truth in this as players involved in those tournaments, or more specifically their agents, will be looking to use those tournaments to push for new contracts and bigger clubs for their clients.

However, we've known we needed a new first choice goalkeeper since last summer. And there is no excuse for not having that sorted at least.

However, we've known we needed a new first choice goalkeeper since last summer. And there is no excuse for not having that sorted at least.

The tournaments are almost at an end, we won’t be signing anyone still at them anyway. So using the tournaments as an excuse is not plausible. BR wants better players, more experienced than last years projects, and the board don’t want to pay for them. So what we have is a stand off. Let’s see who blinks first, PL has been through this many times before, BR needs to stay strong

Over £3m, was Kuhn, Palma and maybe Oh not over £3m too? We have bought a lot of absolute garbage for more than £3m. For me it’s when we hit £6m plus we seem to hit quality.

It’s scary to look at the squad for the first pre season games, I get their are players to come back but in 2024/2025 season we gave Bain, Sergeist, ralston, scales, welsh, Taylor, palm, Kuhn, Oh, Mikey J … and these are our experienced first time players not the youngesters. Hits criminal some of these players contracts are being perpetually extended when they are miles off what we need.

GK, LB, RB, winger, striker, centre mid is absolutely Critical. Then if we sell anyone like O’Reilly that’s another.

Different topic, I daw the stat about McGregor behaving the least progressive passes in the tournament and it doesn’t suprise me. I’ve always loved the guy, but been watching him closely last few seasons and he consistently passes the ball back and doesn’t break the lines or engage teams. The number of times our centre backs roll
Him the ball in CM and he is in acres of space to turn and drive and he either passses it straight back, or controls and passes it to one of the full backs. It’s starting to hurt us in terms of being dynamic

We are painfully slow at everything we do. Too many old men on that board hoarding cash whilst lining their own pockets. We need fresh blood in the boardroom just as much as we need it on the park.

Posters on here are whinging and moaning constantly that we have £100m+ in the bank and should be buying players £8m+ and above, but we should also give game time to younger players.
