10A SUNDAY, MARCH 17, 2019 THE POST-CRESCENT OSHKOSH On Thurs- day, February 21st, 2019, Mark Bernard Nelezen, loving husband, father, and brother, passed away at the age of 66 in Mesa, Arizona. Mark is survived by his loving wife Cindy, his daughter Abi Nelezen (Evan Davies), his sis- ter Carlene Flaherty (Doug Flaherty), his nephews Jeff Wheeler (Leigh Gilman) and their children Aaron and Margot, Dan Wheeler (Grace Park) and their son Owen, and Matt Wheeler. He is further survived by sister- in-law Nancy Lee Arts, and many other relatives and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarendon, his mother Marian, and his in-laws, James and Iline Arts. A celebration of life will be held on Sat- urday March 23, 2019 at St.

Nelezen WABENO JoAnn (VanGroll) Schroeder, age 72, died at home with her family at her side on Thurs- day, March 14, 2019. JoAnn was born January 30, 1947 in Appleton, Wisconsin where she lived until retiring with her husband Don to their home on Roberts Lake in Wabeno, Wisconsin. JoAnn graduated from Xavier High School.

She worked for a few years at Appleton Coated Papers before she and Don started a family with the birth of their daughters Christine and Cindy. She was a stay at home mom for ten years before returning to the workforce when Kohls Department Store opened its first store in the Fox Valley. JoAnn worked as the store secretary for almost 30 years before retiring. JoAnn was amazing in the kitchen and a wonderful hostess. After retirement, she spent many hours each week preparing baked goods and meals anticipating the arrival of family and friends.

The kids always knew where to find the cookies and breads (including the ones in the freezer). When the weather was warm enough, most of her days and evenings were spent on the deck overlooking the lake with a good book and her husband by her side. She bowled in her younger years and picked it up again after retirement. She enjoyed cribbage, book club and mahjong with her friends on the lake. She also relaxed daily with soaks in the hot tub.

JoAnn is survived by Don, her husband and best friend of 51 years. She is further survived by her daughter Christine (Brian) Clearwater and Cindy Schroeder (Eric Bauer). She has three grandchildren Trevor (Danielle) Clearwater, Cassandra (Johnny) Zei and Jack Clearwater as well as one great grandchild Matilda Clearwater. She is survived by her brothers John (Mary) VanGroll, Gary VanGroll, Mark (Sandy) Altergott and Joseph (Vicky) Loessel and her sister-in-law RuthAnn Schroeder. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Valerie, Michael, Brian, John, Paul, Cami, Brett, Abby, Todd and Sarah.

She was preceded in death by her father, John E. VanGroll and mothers, Valeria VanGroll and Claribel Altergott as well as her brother, Michael VanGroll. In lieu of flowers, JoAnn would like contributions directed to St. Hospice Foundation, for the Hospice Quilters Group in Rhinelander, Wis- consin. It was wish that we celebrate her life in a casual, warm and joyful manner in keeping with the way she lived her life.

A gathering is planned for April 13th from 1-4PM at Silver Creek Park Fieldhouse, 3001 South 10th Street, Manitowoc, Wisconsin. At 2PM we will pause to share stories and memories. Jean K. Riley APPLETON Michael R. Whiting, age 56, of Appleton passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Clement J. Zablocki Milwaukee VA Medical Center. He was born March 21, 1962 in Iowa City, IA to Theodore R.

and Winifred J. (nee Brown) Whiting. Michael was united in marriage, to Maria Rodriguez on October 30, 2011. Michael joined the United States Coast Guard and was stationed on Island, NY, New Bedford, MA and Homer, AK. At the age of 25, Mi- aspiration was to open his own restaurant.

23 years later, he realized that dream by opening Mi Casa Mexican Grill. Michael is survived by is wife, Maria; son, Sebas- tian; his sisters, Catherine (Brad) Reed of Oshkosh, Barbara Hoffman of Fond du Lac and Laurie (Rick) Clark of Gurnee, IL; and his best buddy, Mike McMahon. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, The- odore R. Whiting and Winifred J.

Jones. A service will be held on March 23, 2019 at 11:00 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness 570 Mar- shall Ave. Fond du Lac, WI. Following the service a celebration of his life will be held at The Roxy 571 N. Main St.

Oshkosh, WI from 1:00 to 4:00. Michael R. Whiting FREEDOM Our mom, went home on March 15, 2019, free from the cancer that took her so quickly. She is now with her hus- band, Ken Schumacher; mom and dad: Marie and George Vander Zanden; her sisters: Nancy Haas and Noreen (Leon) Danke; and brother-in- law, Harry Wirth. We are sure she is hugging the grandbabies that were taken too soon.

Mom took everything with grace and never complained or asked why. Instead, she OK at 86 years old, she had a good life and has seen all she wanted to Mom was quick to tell anyone who was going to cry that, not going to do this now, I am fine, I have any pain, I am We are grateful God gave us the chance to love on her and keep her comfortable in her own home during her last days. Thank you to all her family, friends and neigh- bors for visiting, sharing kind words and cards. We thank Aunt Lynn enough. Thank you Heidi for making Mom always feel beautiful; you and the ladies at Exquisite Hair Design were tremendously loved by her.

The wonderful team with hospice has been very kind and helpful. Mom will truly be missed by all those who loved her. She was a special lady. Sommerfeld, at 89 of Me- nasha, passed away early Friday, March 15, 2019. She was born May 22, 1929 in Stade, Germany and moved to Neenah with her husband Hugo and their three oldest children in 1957. Frida supported Hugo and cared for their chil- dren as a hard working stay-at-home-mom. She enjoyed spending time outdoors tending to her flowers, watching birds, and adored her pets. She also enjoyed bicycle rides until just a short time ago.

She and her family were members of St. Tim- othy Lutheran Church in Menasha. Frida is survived by her children: Fredi (Judy) Sommerfeld; Detlef (Cheryl) Sommerfeld; Zara Sommerfeld; Helmut Sommerfeld; Bruno (Kaylen) Sommerfeld; and Heidi Thiel; by her daughter- in-law, Colette Sommerfeld; and by her sister, Hannah. She is further survived by 10 grandchil- dren and four great-grandchildren; as well as by many nieces and nephews both in the states and in Germany. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugo; her son, Frank; and by two sisters and one brother.

A Funeral Service for Frida will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March 22, 2019 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 473 7th Menasha, with Rev. David Skarsten officiating. A visitation will be held at church from 9:00 A.M.
